New Photography 2009 is up at the Museum of Modern Art through January 11, 2010. There are a few videos, with artists featured in the show, discussing the exhibit and photography in general on their blog.
Has anyone had a chance to see this exhibit?

Abelardo Morell: The Universe Next Door
The TTU Graduate Photo class had the privilege of attending a screening of A Shadow of the House, viewing The Universe Next Door exhibit, and meeting Abelardo Morell on Thursday, October 8.
The film, directed by Allie Humenuk, is a 74 minute look at the life of Abelardo Morell. It features an in-depth look at the way in which Morell’s home life and art making are largely intertwined. Traveling with the entire family to Paris, we got an extensive look at how his camera obscura images are constructed. A Shadow of the House gives telling insights into Morell’s thoughts on photography as language. Viewers learned that Morell feels “its more fun to photograph the thing than to show it” and that Robert Frank is one of his photographic heros. The film may be purchased and trailer viewed here.
After the screening there was a brief Q&A with the director and artist. The evening was completely worth the 6 hour drive to San Antonio.
The next morning we came back to go through the exhibition again and received a tour of the Southwest School of Art & Craft’s facilities. They offer courses in photography, printmaking, fibers, papermaking, and more. Victor Pagona, Photography Department Chair, showed us his work and their great darkroom setup. If you’re in the area, it looks like a great place to take some courses.
Everyone was very hospitable. Be sure to check out the show before it closes on November 8.

Seattle
If you’re in or near Seattle, you should visit this beautiful campus that is committed to showcasing art. The Henry Art Gallery, at the University of Washington, is one of the finest university galleries I have attended. When I was there they had an excellent teaching exhibition up that showed students a variety of different photographic print type examples with text that explained the processes. There is always something exciting going on, and its well worth checking out.
Also worth checking out is Photographic Center Northwest. Serving as both an education center and gallery, PCNW is an important part of the community. They currently have Photo-Op, 14th Annual Photographic Competition, Juried by Jen Bekman, on display. They are also co-hosting the Society for Photographic Education Northwest Region Annual Conference from November 6-8. If you’re in the area, you should go. The one down here is always a good time.
