Upcoming Photo Festivals.
Hello Everyone! I wanted to let you know about a few upcoming Photography events for this year.
September 30 – October 2, 2010:
The Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin will be presenting the ninth biennial Fluer Cowles Flair Symposium: Shaping the History of Photography. The symposium will be held Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2010. Leaders in their fields will consider the forces that have historically shaped these areas, as well as the contemporary influences and developing trends that continue to affect our understanding of the history of photography. Be sure to check out their website for more information.
October 6 – 10, 2010:
Filter Photo and the Chicago Photography Center are hosting the 2010 Filter Photo Festival. It will take place in Chicago, IL from Oct. 6-10, 2010 with all sorts of activities from portfolio reviews, lectures and exhibitions.
November 6 – 13, 2010:
Also, in Washington D.C., the FotoWeek DC 2010 Festival will be going on from Nov. 6-13, 2010. Right now they have some call for entries open so take the opportunity to submit! They are closing soon. They too will have portfolio reviews, lectures and exhibitions.
If you are near either Chicago, IL or Washington D.C., I encourage you to check out the festivals. They will be great places to see some photography and network! If you are able to go and would like to share the event with SRO, email us. We would love to hear about your experience!

FotoFest
The TTU Photo Grads had the privilege of being in Houston this last weekend for FotoFest. A great time was had by all, and we got to see some wonderful photo exhibitions throughout the city. One of the highlights for me was the show at the MFA Houston: Ruptures and Continuities: Photography Made after 1960 from the MFAH Collection. On Friday night there was an Evening with the Artists: Open Portfolio Night, and it was very enjoyable to see so many people excited about photography. Saturday, we had the privilege of shadowing portfolio reviewers and seeing how they responded to different types of work and work of varying quality. As graduate students preparing as careers as educators or artists or combination of the two, this was an invaluable experience.
The next FotoFest will be in 2012. Its well worth the trip.
